The Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California opened in October 2026, welcoming patients with expanded specialties and 24/7 emergency and critical care services.

The new center—an expansion of the UC Veterinary Medical Center, San Diego—realizes the school’s vision to serve more animals throughout Southern California and beyond. The current San Diego center was established more than 20 years ago with support from a state allocation intended to expand veterinary care in the region.

Philanthropy at Work

Alice Villalobos, DVM ’72 and her husband, Ira Lifland, have made a transformational estate gift to the school’s new Veterinary Cancer Center, which is part of the next phase of the Veterinary Medical Complex expansion.

Their commitment is the largest from an alumnus in the school's history. Once realized, it will help advance care and research for animals affected by cancer.

Commitment to Diversity

“We are immensely grateful to Dr. Graham for her commitment to fostering diversity. Broadening diversity of our future veterinary leaders is integral to our mission as a world-class veterinary school.”—Dean Mark Stetter
